Hudson Designs on Jun 18, 2011Hello Amy, I would go with a pale yellow or mint green. Pick a light shade and maybe a semi gloss. The more light the better.Helpful Reply

John H on Jun 18, 2011Amy, Attics don't have many windows. I would go with a lighter color. I would try to match the stair rail to the new floor as best as possible.Helpful Reply

Amy Q on Jun 18, 2011I don't have a stair rail yet, Should I choose wood to match the floor? or iron? I personally like the blue color (the blue color close to grey.) Now it sounds like it's too dark according to your opinions.Helpful Reply

3po3 on Jun 18, 2011There are some really light, bright blues that should work. As far as the rail, sounds like either would look nice. It's mostly an aesthetic choice. I like iron, but that's just an opinion.Helpful Reply

Patsy W on Jun 19, 2011Try a wood & Iron stair-rail. You can get the "spindles" in several styles at both Lowes & Home Depot. How about a pale Teal Bule with splashes of Orange/coral for accents! Remember it's not matchy, matcy, bur BLEND!Helpful Reply

TonyaM Williams on Jun 20, 2011Hi Amy, I might choose a very pale tint that has both some blue and grey tones--I think the color is by Behr called Ostrich. The reason I am suggesting this is because attics generally hold more heat than other areas of the home so heat rises and you want a light color up there to aid in the coolness factor. Additionally, I don't know how much square footage you are working with, whether its a lot or a little you want a color that you can accessorize around. For instance if you are going to have a media area up there with a neutral color on the wall your furniture could be very muted or earth toned with beautiful accent pillows to make the room pop...or even a lively area rug to bring the room together , give it a little warmth as well as make it interesting. The wood floors and the wood and iron stair railing will look amazing and timeless...with neutral walls you now can add your personality through the decor and accessories you choose. Please post pics of the finished room! TMWHelpful Reply

Kel M on Jul 09, 2011Let us know what you decide. I love the blue-gray option, especially with the wood and if you added dark iron railing. You could go with a lighter blue gray. It is such a versatile color and really works well as a neutral. Get a couple of paint cards (several taped together if you need bigger swatches) and put up against walls and leave them so you can see how they work throughout the day and in different lighting. The darker colors tend to absord light, yet can also reflect beautifully against warm woods, rustic textures, the iron you mentioned.Helpful Reply

Terra Gazelle on Sep 04, 2014I have a very small studio that I finished..I found a beautiful light sage green..I think it was called Hazy Clouds. It is a comfortable color and so light grayish green that it fools the eye and leaves the feeling of space. I mixed some of the gray green paint in the white ceiling paint and got a very soft color... That shade of green is so nuetral that anything will go with it.Helpful Reply
