I found some old cabinet fronts at a rehab store. I loved the way they already looked like a FRAME around the edges, so knew exactly what I was going to do. Make some signs! A win win because I don't have to frame them on my own.
EDIT: ADDED ANOTHER SIGN I DID STRAIGHT ON WOOD, No Paint Beforehand. Added to the bottom of the pictures.
So I started with a cabinet front and sanded the front of it down. This will help the paint stick to it since it's normally shiney and smooth.
I measured my front so I knew what size stencil to make, when I was ready for that step.
Then I used Chalk Paint and painted the top of it. You could probably use acrylic too, but I like that I can sand off chalk paint to make it look distressed.
It actually took a few coats of paint, with drying in between to cover it. Afterwards, I took a very light sanding with a sanding block, just to the top of it to help reveal some of the original cabinet color.
Then I made myself a stencil and adhered it to the top part of cabinet. I left the edges free of paint, so it looked more like it would be framed.
I then decided at the last minute, to use STAIN or Antique Wax to paint in my letters instead of paint. I thought it made it match the wood more and would make it pop.
I also stained the edges or frame to bring out it's natural color, which was beautiful.
Took off the stencil and Oh My...isn't it gorgeous. Using the stain or wax for the lettering and side frame was just what it needed. I love it so much. I feel like it looks more rustic or cabin feel painted like this, don't you?
EDIT: Just added this picture. This was the same process, using brown Antique Wax instead of paint, but put straight onto the wood. No painting the background of the wood beforehand. LOVE

I also have a Silhouette Cameo. Did you buy the saying or make it up yourself? If bought I would like to know from where?
