Everywhere I've read online on how to get rid of ants says use peppermint oil wherever they're coming in.
All ants can be rid by using cornmeal. Put it where you see a trail of ants or a mound. They cannot digest it and take it back to the nest where the queen and all the workers die. We use Jiffy because it is sweet and they are crazy about it. It is inexpensive, safe for kids and pets, and the environment. Best of all it works! We had tried everything including poison and baits and nothing was effective. This works! For large colonies you may need a second application, but we only need it in the spring for new colonies. We never have to use it until the next spring. I keep Jiffy in my pantry in the spring for ants.
