Bottom of china cabinet

Ok, everyone, I need some ideas. I have been given a beautiful china cabinet base. The top of it has a sunken portion of about 2 inches almost the entire top. The ends are curved. The only thing I can think to do is have glass cut, spread some sand and place shells, top with the glass. I really don't want to have glass cut to fit due to the cost. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

  • Would love to see some pictures of it.
  • I love the idea of a glass top with sand and shells... But, you could also have a new top cut to fit and either paint it or stain it to match the rest of your cabinet. If the base is really beautiful and functional and you plan on keeping the piece for a while it may be worth the investment to restore it! Have fun!

try and place shells and sand with a clear bear 50 poured over it until its level. this doesnt scratch. its like heavy duty table top finish.

do you live near water? I wouldn't use sand and shells unless you have waterfront property.....could we see a photo? It's hard to give advice without a visual.

@@@Lesley, I too would love to help, but will wait to see photos. There may be a less expensive way to fix this than a glass top as you are correct. That would be very expensive.
