Can terrazzo be saved if tile has been laid on top of it?

Douglas Hunt on Apr 13, 2014Yes, if you get the right team to remove the old tile and restore the terrazzo. This is exactly what my sister had done last year.Helpful Reply

Terry's Flooring on Apr 14, 2014Look , I don't know how much floor you have to take up , but hopefully they didn't " pit up " your terrazzo before putting it down with thinset.. They more than likely just went over it with thinset ..Anyway, rent a machine with a 12" blade that will take it all up and save you some sweat and time ..Make sure not to hold the machine straight up & down when using it ..Where I live , I can rent the machine & good blade for 4 hours for $70.00 ..After you get down to the terrazzo take 1 part " Muratic Acid " , and 8 parts Water and a heavy bristled brush ..This is the real work ..Dip the brush with rubber gloves on , down into the mixture ( hopefully you buy one you can stand up and use ) and start scrubbing ..If the solution is too weak go down in how much water you put in to make it stronger ...Good Luck...... Should take about $100.00 and 8 hrs. tops to do ..Helpful Reply

Kc Quaretti on Apr 14, 2014@Terry's Flooring Wow thanks so much for this information, its really helpful! My whole house (1300 sq feet built in 1970) is terrazzo with about half covered in cheap chipped tile. I love the original terrazzo and was hoping there was a way to save it without spending a fortune which I don't have! Anyway thanks again!Helpful Reply
