Industrial Shelves

As I’ve flipped through magazines and pins on Pinterest I have run across Industrial Bookshelves using metal piping from hardware stores. I really like the look and feel like it leans on the masculine side of decorating. So I drew up a plan, went to the hardware store, and put it together! It’s super easy for any of you ladies that would like to make one.
In our new house my husband has an office!! Yea!! At our last house our bedroom was his office as well. That worked out fine for a while, but he started working late hours and would need lights on which resulted in me having to sleeping with a pillow over my head and dreaming of the clicking sounds of a keyboard… Not fun! But, now he’s down the hall and has his own space which makes both of us happy. :)

The office is the first room in our home when you walk in through the front door so we wanted it to look nice and fairly organized most of the time. One of the ways to help him with organization was to build him some bookshelves. I’m trying very hard to keep his office looking masculine and in NO way feminine! I keep having to remind myself that this is his space. If I dare put a flower in a vase he quickly calls my name to remove it!! ha ha! But, if I don’t help him with decorating he would just as well have a box for a table with 3M plastic hooks all over the walls hanging his pictures and stuff! :)
You can see in the above picture how I assembled them together. The ends of the pipes have grooves so they thread easily into each other. There are all kinds of ways that you could put these shelves together. They give you the opportunity to be creative and create the style that you are looking for. These pipes are relatively heavy so we had to make sure that when we placed them on the wall they wouldn’t sag and could hold some weight as well. That is why we placed them vertically vs horizontally on the wall.
