I believe anyone can be an artist. You just have to know how to finagle the rules to get a result that you like with the skills that you have (which are always growing the more you try).
I’m not hear to tout my artistic skill. Actually, I shouldn’t be saying anything about my artistic skill because I got my lowest grade in college in the art class I took. I didn’t know until I started the class that they actually grade you on skill.
Yes, drawing may not be my strong suit but I love geometric shapes and more abstract art (at times).
So I bought two canvases and attacked them with painters tape. The result was two personalized pieces of art!

Anyone can be an artist! See how I personalized these canvases with paint and tape!
I took two canvases that I bought @Michaels and taped them with regular and chevron painters tape. This is an easy way for someone to make customized art who doesn't trust their freehand.
I used two different types of paint: regular craft paint and artist acrylic paint. I painted each canvas with a different paint but in the same palette to really see which one was better. You really can tell a difference!
Here is my canvas after the paint with the tape still on. You will most likely have to do a few different coats. Make sure to pull off the tape when wet on the last coat.
I hung the canvases up in a corner of my room. So fun and sweet! And original to me!
The top canvas used the regular craft paint and the bottom used acrylic paint. Tee acrylic paint was definitely a higher quality with a deeper hue. I really liked working with it.
