How to Create a Brighter Kitchen

With the number of windows in my house, would you believe the darkest is my kitchen. Since the cabinets needed some maintenance and I was thinking about going brighter anyways, I made the decision to paint them white and the island Grey. While I was at it, saved myself some money and painted the backsplash too! No regrets here! For more of my journey and pictures of my brighter kitchen , visit my blog Top This Top That.
This is the before . The cabinets were about 12 years old and needed to be freshened up. Our cabinets were custom made when we built our home. They were maple with a cherry color stain.
Here's the after. At first I wasn't sure about the darker granite color but since I have dark wood floors it works and balances it out.
The tumbled stone backsplash which was ivory and brown got a couple coats of semi gloss white. I have had no problem keeping them fresh and clean and paint adhering.
All the trim ( which was the same wood stain as the cabinets were painted as well.
