My husband and I have worked very hard to have the perfect sitting area in our backyard. Two years ago, we added a cement patio. However, there is little to no shade in the afternoon and it was almost impossible to enjoy it in the hot summer sun. We purchased a large Pergola to remedy that problem, but in the evenings it was too dark to enjoy company without turning on our flood light. We priced outdoor lighting at our local stores and on line, but we found it to be more than we wanted to spend, so I came up with the perfect solution.
I went to a local Goodwill store and found the perfect size chandelier for $7.00. Also, I purchased 6 small solar pathway lights for $.98 each. After all the wiring and light sockets were removed (leaving the metal posts the sockets were attached to) the entire lamp was spray painted with Rustoleum Hammered Black. With my husband's help, we measured and cut the tubes of the solar lights slightly shorter than the white candle tubes and slid each one over the existing metal posts. Each tube was then fastened with one small screw to hold them in place making sure that the screw wouldn't interfere with inserting the solar lights.
The white outer tubes were put over the black solar tubes and the solar lights were put in place. I used the metal ceiling plate as a cover for the top of the chandelier.
Not only does it look great during the day, it gives off just the right light glow to visit with friends and family or create a romantic evening with your sweetheart.
