Saw one of these at Mecox Gallery a few years ago, and the biggest "I CAN DO THAT" poped into my head.
Pretty easy project. The jig saw may be a little intimidating, but don't let that keep you from trying this yourself.
I bought the loose Scabble tiles on Amazon.com. 10 bucks for 100. It's much cheaper than buying the game...it was $18 at Walmart. OOOhhh, took me about 150 tiles for my frame.
I started with a piece of leftover plywood. 25 X 20 6/8 inches. It took some measuring to determine the right size based on the size of my Scrabble tiles.
I used a jig saw to cut out the inner circle. Leaving me with a frame with 2 1/8 inches on the sides and 2 3/8 inches on the top and bottom.
I added an outside border of lattice molding strips with wood glue and brads. Leaving just enough depth to hold my tiles.
I glued the tiles with Elmer's Wood Glue Max.
Filled all my holes with natural wood filler.
Then added a second trim of lattice strips on the inside to finish the frame, I glued this one too, and clamped it till it was dry.
Pretty good looking so far.
I gave the whole frame a clear coat of satin wood finish before attaching a mirror piece to the back with liquid nails......
......and now I enjoy my new scrabble tile framed mirror.
Enjoyed the project?
