Lori J on Jun 23, 2012I know that amazing things can be done with stain, but I would also consider a color pop. Maybe paint the rockers--or if that seems to bold, maybe start with painting the table.Helpful Reply

Jan C on Jun 23, 2012If your house is soft gray, I'd do the floor a dark gray to contrast and compliment it. Then maybe some red Geraniums in turquoise pots for pops of color!Helpful Reply

Becky H on Jun 24, 2012Or, you could paint rugs on the porch floor, after you determine what you want to do with the rest of the floor.Helpful Reply

85565 on Jun 24, 2012Would paint the little table in a pretty color you love....love the stain idea in a color complimentary to the house.....And consider painting the ceiling of the porch a beautiful airy blue....I love "Tibetan Sky" by Sherwin Williams..finish off with some brightly colored flowers and a piece of art you love on the wall and some fun indoor/outdoor pillows with some punch:)Helpful Reply

Peace Painting Co., Inc. on Jun 24, 2012The decking would make a good painted surface. Because it is covered, it would would hold paint without peeling and not need re-doing for a long time. Best, CharlesHelpful Reply

Kandee S on Jun 25, 2012they make indoor outdoor carpet looks like grass. I would get some of that and tack it down. If you have ceiling they say to paint it like sky blue so the birds won't want to land in there. Then go for the furniture and colors you want there. the table you could make different table clothes for it. I would leave the chairs white and use different color pillows for holidays.Helpful Reply

Nichter's Home Services Corp on Jun 25, 2012Carpet would hod moisture and cause it to rot out fast. I would likely use Ben-Moore's Urethene porcch and deck paint. It can be mixed to custom colors, but there is a grey off the rack. Be sure to prep by sanding and cleaning and having it dry first. That can make the difference in a one year job and an eight year jobHelpful Reply

Suzanne R on Jun 25, 2012Great, thanks for all the great suggestions....Rachel, I like the idea of painting the ceiling blue...any color suggestion for the porch floor? And, would it be best to do the stairs and front walk as well or can they be left alone...? I do have tablecloths for the table....we were just in transition when the picture was taken. Nichter's, thanks for the advice. I will look into that and will follow your prep instructions as I (and I'm sure my husband!) want the job to last!! Thanks again everyone....appreciate any additional ideas/suggestions!Helpful Reply

LandlightS on Jun 25, 2012As you know from my recent post, I just finished a deck with Restore......and they have a very broad color palate....and especially covered, the finish will last for many, many years. I agree with a darker contrast on the floor and then you can spruce it up with some smaller outdoor rugs and potted plants.....but I'm just an electrician.....what do I know... Good luck with your decision and have a great July 4th,,,,Helpful Reply

Carol C on Jun 25, 2012I know you said you weren't interested in decking, but our front porch and house colors are almost identical and we put Trek decking on ours in gray. We've had it for over 10 years and it is still beautiful and safe as if it gets wet its never slippery.Helpful Reply

LandlightS on Jun 25, 2012Suzzane.....from what you said, I assume the front poarch is concrete, and if so, Restore does make a product similar to Restore Deck Armour specifically for concrete...(and no, I do not work for them) GaryHelpful Reply

Janice B on Jun 26, 2012Paint the concrete porch barn red. That would really pop and go well with the color of the house and your porch furniture.Helpful Reply

Nichter's Home Services Corp on Jun 26, 2012sky blue for a porch ceiling is traditional here with good reason. Insects stay away from that as they fear birds diving out of the sky to eat them. Fewer spiders and flys by far that wayHelpful Reply

Suzanne R on Jun 26, 2012Thanks to all for your input...Landlight, I will look into that & Nichter's....that would be a good thing for us as we have loads of spiders as well as other bugs! Would go a long way to keeping the porch clean! Janice, if you were staining the porch floor red, what would you do with the concrete stairs and path to driveway (all concrete)...?Helpful Reply

Scottie Vosburgh on Jul 06, 2014I think the porch would look quite nice in a medium grey tone. You could even stencil a rug on it in a bright color if you felt like it. Use concrete paint and it should last quite a while.Helpful Reply

Terry on Jan 19, 2015It's more pricey than stain, paint or wood but they now have tile that looks like wood. Once it's installed it's very low maintenance, just hose it off. It looks like your style is cottage/country and this look would go very well with that. Here's a pic.Helpful Reply

Elliebgood on Oct 28, 2016Scrub first with muriatic acid, commonly called an 'acid etch' treatment, to make sure your paint sticks and holds up for a long time. Exterior concrete paint in a medium grey and I'd stencil, freehand paint or just add a bright yellow accent rug. The latter you could change out seasonally.Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on Oct 28, 2016Tile would be great - charcoal - lasts forever, but expensive. Like the terra cotta or brick paint idea as think you need colour. If not this, then I would get the new type indoor/outdoor rugs for the seating area and by the door. Maybe put some colour on the table if you decide to go with a neutral colour on the porch. Do you have room for a tall, leafy plant - artificial or real - to add interest and soften lines. Maybe some colourful flowers like red geraniums . Definitely needs colour.Helpful Reply
