A Budget-Friendly Living Room Makeover

Recently we moved into a 1940's bungalow that has been beautifully redone.
But furniture we loved in our old home wasn't working at all in the new house, especially in the living room.
The entertainment center didn't fit. We had no window dressings at all, because our last house had shutters. While I love the hardwood floors, all my furniture is wood-toned and just blended in. And I was more than tired of my traditional color scheme, but wasn't sure how to get away from it with a gold rolled-arm couch.
I needed help.Professional help. No DIY this time.
This is what I started with: a couch a table, and vinyl blinds. Oh, and great floors, but nearly the same color as my furniture. Since we had just moved, I didn't really have a lot to spend. But I knew I wouldn't get this living room to where I wanted it to be on my own.
This rug was the starting point of the whole living room. It has the gold tone of the sofa, the grey I wanted to bring into the room, and the dark brown that works great with my tables. The large pattern is a little more contemporary than what I would have picked out on my own, which is why I needed a decorator. Otherwise, I would have wound up with the same tired look I had before.
After the rug, sheers were the next find, and these have a knobby, woven texure that has a little bit of a rustic hand-woven look to them. And the grey looks awesome with the sofa. Even better, they were on sale at Tuesday Mornings, so we got a super deal on them! Corissa also helped me pick out several throw pillows that had the gold, grey, and brown from the rug for the couch and chairs. These are sooooo much better than the green and red pillows that came with the couch!
