How to fix

Jeanette S on Aug 13, 2014I am not good with fixing these sorts of things...we have to call on friends! But no matter what you do, you will have to Kilz the ceiling and repaint everything! Bummer!Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on Aug 13, 2014Looks like a water stain on the ceiling. Water may be getting in above and running from some area and then down a corner stud. Is there a bathroom above with a leaky pipe? an attic with uninsulated stack causing condensation "run-off"? If this is on an outer wall, maybe check the chimney, too. The flashing can deteriorate, let in water and cause problems like this. Or check if new wiring has been brought in/out of the house that there is no opening for water entry. (Have experienced all of these!) It's important to find the cause of the problem before you do anything else..Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Aug 13, 2014The spray can of kilz ceiling touch up paint is fabulous stuff. I would cover the brown paint and spray paint to see if covers. I hope the leak is fixed. then do you have brown paint? If yes, then take a utility knife and carefully cut away what has buckled and loosened. Use caulking. the cheap paintable stuff you use to hide crackes in trim and baseboards. carefully get it in the corners and then let cure and paint. I have used this trick before. good luckHelpful Reply

Elaine Lee on Aug 13, 2014Check the roof for leaks or any bathroom - I would also go outside and check the eavestroughs aren't clogged up - but that needs to be looked at first - if it's not any of that - I would use the kilz or javex bleach first then you will need some compound to fix the damage - scrap it off first.Helpful Reply

Jane on Aug 14, 2014Once you have the leak fixed and have Kilz-ed the stain, you need to cut the peeling corner tape with a sharp blade and retape it. Then using your drywall putty with which you attached the tape, gradually add layers, sanding between coats, so that the edge of the tape no longer shows. Then you can repaint it.Helpful Reply
