Most people think that the freezer compartment must be extremely cold, but as you pointed out this can cause the food to spoil quickly. Nice post Becky!

If I had it to do all over again when we built this house...we bought the first ever French Door Frig by Maytag, so it was not possible...but I love the refrigerators that are flush with the cabinets and have doors that match the cabinets. Our cabinet package was about $34,000 so I doubt we would have done it even if it had been available. I have "pots and pans" drawers" instead of lower cabinets because I am in a wheelchair. Even lower cabinets with slide-out shelves don't work well if ...»
you are in a WC (doors open out and get in the way) The lower drawers are more expensive than regular cabinets. The only lower cabinet I have is in my island. I store my mixer, and tall objects there. I have a floor to ceiling frenc 2 smaller door pantry, (rather than 1 larger door...I can sit in front and open the shorter doors.). I find the French Door refrigerator with the lower freezer easier to use with a wheelchair as well.

I more thing Becky Sue....I forgot to add a pot filler over my stove. Since you are a designer, I would recommend this for EVERYONE! It is hard for us to retrofit one now.

Pot fillers are faucets that mount in the wall behind the cooking area/stove. Meant to fill pots :) Not many ask for them, a lot because of their priorities in the budget - they are not cheap.

A "Pot Filler" is a spigot that folds flat against the wall behind your stove. It dispenses only very hot water. If you have one of these installed, you can fill large pots (like for spaghetti) right on the stove top, with hot water without having to lift them from the sink to the stove. The ideal would be that you would use a pot that has an insert that is like a colandar, (like for pasta) that will lift out of the filled pot of hot water. That way, you never have to lift a pot of real ...»
hot water and move it from your sink to the stove or vice versa. Becky Sue, they really aren't all that expensive if you install it when you are building. It is the retrofit that is expensive.

Most everything is renovations these days.. that was the angle I was coming from too. Bringing over a water line to a faucet isnt always the easiest thing to do.

Hot water? I have never heard of using that line for a pot filler. I know there is myths/debates on which boils faster, but from a cooking standpoint, starting potatoes or making broth from meat bones can drastically affect the outcome. Cold water is essential.. ...»

Another twist? Often times water that goes through your hot water tank will taste differently than cold water right from the well or city water lines. Sitting in a tank brewing.. changes it more ways than one.

Whoops.. this shouldve been another post huh? Not much about refrigerator styles here! haha
