A Simple Table Setting for Everyday
by

My Mom and I were packing my grandmother's dishes when I commented that no one sets a formal table anymore. "Well they should," my parents answered in unison.
Hearing my parents reminisce about the beauty of a set table inspired me to do this more often. So, after painting my breakfast table, I unpacked my grandmother's dishes, grabbed some of own things and created an everyday table setting.

These cobalt plates are original Fiestaware that my grandmother apparently bought for .50 cents. I'm sure she bought them to resale at her shop. I'm so glad she didn't... and that I can have them to remember her by.
I've added texture with placemats and napkins from World Market...mixing old with new.
The silver pitcher was also my grandmothers. It makes the perfect centerpiece.
This salsa jar has been repurposed to hold forks. The label was made with chalkboard paint made for glass and a chalk paint pen.
A ceramic flower from Southern Living holds toothpicks. ( I've had the flower for years.)
And it all comes together to make a simple, but elegant table setting for everyday.

Jeannie McCarley on Aug 31, 2014That's really lovely, love the blue and white napkins, love it all. Isn't it great to be able to use items that have been given by family members, there's such love in them :-)
