Really cool use of collected glass bottles and corks.

I saw this at a bar I passed and had to share. They made an entire wall of wine bottles, and a few wooden boxes filled with cork.

are they mortared in place of just dry stacked? ...if dry stacked that seems pretty dangerous as an avalanche of glass could occur.

Ah, much better. This is pretty cool. I saw a keyboard wall the other day. I've been meaning to post it:

no of course they're not just stacked. I wouldn't have gotten that close. I'm not sure exactly what material they used to fasten then, but they're definitely stuck in place.

Susan...a good party or two and you should have enough wine bottles for a couple of trees....or are your parties tea and crumpet types?

Miriam...how was it put together? I cant make it out. people see so many different things in their imaginations, dont they? What are the white "keys"? Did they just pull the keys out and glue them? Not use the keyboard? ??? scratching my head here.

Bernice, I wish I knew. This was at a hotel, I thought it was cool so I took a picture, but I can't imagine how they did it!

@Bernice yes they just used the keys, much like you would tiles...LOL In the Mojave where we used to live as kids, someone had made a house out of bottles...back in like the depression era and it was in a ghost town so you could go through it and it was pretty cool, they had thick adobe walls and bottles just stuck through the wall about every six inches. The sunlight came through and it was like a rainbow inside really beautiful!

@Sharron....bottle walls are a huge part of modern Earthship building. These are near our cabin in New Mexico.

@KMS...I still think your pics are so enjoyable to look at, and I can imagine the sun coming in through the bottles. I had glass blocks in a window facing the western sun, I loved that feature.Sparkly afternoons. I noticed the new owners put in regular windows ...boring! They dont open, so why change a beautiful feature like that? Oh well. I think it would be so unique to have a bottle feature like that. I have seen them as path borders too! But then I am a glass and mirror girl! I ...»

It was a neat place Bernice! I used to take off and go "exploring" I was such a tomboy always running across the desert...the story my brother tells of watching me leap over a sagebrush just to discover I was going to land in a cactus patch is a real stitch...talk about trying to learn to run in air....I love remembering the desert...I have never seen more beautiful sunrises anywhere...

@KMS, that is so beautiful. It's an amazing way to recycle especially because all those bottles create a mosaic that really looks like it's made from precious gems.
