Tons of work there!! I hope you celebrated when you finished the job. The room has a tremendous amount of character, and was well worth your efforts. Do you know when your home was built and its history?

Well thank you! Yes, lots and lots of work but we couldn't be happier with the final product. And yes, Becky, we do know some of the house's history. It was built in 1900 and the farm used to cover the entire square mile surrounding us. We've been so fortunate to meet four of the previous owners, two of which lived here in their childhood--one in the 40's and one in the 50's. The whole house and property has been a handful restoring but it has been so satisfying seeing the tired old ...»

Now that's what I call love! Thank you for restoring this beauty to it's original glory. I'm loving that you kept the wood stained and in the style fitting of such a grand home.

I bet it was fun learning some history of your home from someone that lived there years ago!

Rachael, how wonderful to have been able to chat with previous owners; that seldom happens. Wonderful to learn the key to what occurred in and to the home so many years back. Have you begun to document the history? Can't wait to see the rest of your home.

It has been an arduous process but we are so happy with how things are looking. If I ever feel discouraged, I look at photos of when we first moved in and feel so much better! I loved the trim too and am happy that it has worked out. Trim seems to make all the difference!

And yes, I've documented most of what we have learned from the previous owners. One couple is actually our neighbor, just up the road--they lived here when they were newly married and told me ...»

all kinds of adventurous stories. Also, in Iowa, when a house is purchased, the new owners get a very detailed record of the house and it's history. It's been interesting to thumb through that too.

That's neat about the house history given when you purchase a home in Iowa. The only home my hubby and I purchased (we are both Iowans) was brand new. I wonder how many others have lived there and got our information.
