How to Upholster a Piano Bench

The first thing I ever upholstered was the lid to a toy box. It was a quick and easy project not to mention a great upholstery project for beginners. Once you can upholster a lid, you can upholster a seat, a bench, an ottoman and even a headboard.
Step 1: Using the screw driver, remove the bench top from the hinges. Put the screws in a plastic bag and tape them to the piece you are working on. Step 2: Place the bench lid on top of the foam and trace the lid with a marker. Cut the foam with your scissors.Step 3: Cut your batting 3 inches wider than the bench lid. Make sure to account for the foam. I lay out the batting and then place the foam and bench lid on top and cut out my batting.
Pull the fabric tight and staple the other side of the bench. Once all the sides are stapled, you can staple the corners.
For this bench, I pulled the corner fabric over the corner and secured it with a staple. Next, I folded the fabric over (pull it tight) and stapled to the corner. Trim the excess fabric. Fold the other side of the corner fabric over (pull it tight) and staple to the corner. Trim the excess fabric so that the corners aren’t bulky. Repeat on the rest of the corners. I have a piano bench that I would like to redo but it has a thicker cushion with a rolled cord along the top and 8 buttons down through the middle. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Great redo! I love these benches...I buy everyone I find...which happens to be only 2! They are so easy to redo so you can use them as much as you want and if they get soiled, just recover! And they fit under desks, tables, behind chairs, etc., to be pulled out for additional seating!
