Upcycled Media Cabinet (#ReuseIt #BuildIt)

My husband is a high school English teacher and this semester he got assigned a film and literature course, which means his classroom needed something to store all the equipment as well as somewhere for the tv to go. But the school didn’t really have a budget for both electronics and furniture, so I took matters into my own hands.
We bought a 1980s media cabinet at the Habitat Restore for $17 and I made it much more functional!
We bought a 1980s media cabinet at the Habitat Restore for $17 and I made it much more functional!
Add a backing and a shelf where your old huge backed tv would have gone, then if you've got dated wood like I did, paint it a nice matte color to bring it into 2014.
I added a few pieces of plywood to cover the opening, then used hobby board and a 1x2 to make a bookshelf.
Americana Decor chalky paint in carbon with a coat of wax finished it off. Now, electronics can store in the glass front door and the tv can either sit or be mounted on top.
