Could that giant spath live in a cold climate like Chicago? I'm always looking for shade loving plants for my yard ...

Linda, I don't think it'd do well during your winter. The year we had successive freezes, those freezes alone (no snow) knocked all the spaths to the roots.........not the giant, because I have it in a 20 gal. pot and brought it into the garage. They all came back from the roots! But, I don't think they'd survive snow.

@Linda, they grow them here in pots and usually garage them for the winter...

@Becky, What is a hoya? the leaves almost look like a succulent...but if it needs shade obviously not....is it a big plant?

Sharon, people used to call the Hoya the "Wax Plant". The leaves are very fleshy w/a waxy feel, and it is a vining plant. If you were to touch this bloom, it would feel artificial or waxy. The blooms last about a week. It is commonly used as a house plant. I'm unsure of the scientific name, but can look it up.
