Moving in with the Inlaws, Need Decorating Advice

My husband and I are temporarily (about 1 year) moving in with my in-laws and will be going from a 2000 square foot home to two bedrooms and a bathroom (maybe 500 square feet). I'm looking for some decorating advice. Any tips? :)

Sounds like you need downsizing advice more than decorating advice. Get rid of anything you haven't used in more than one year.

Absolutely. And we have. It is really hard to watch 2/3 of your belongings get sold in a two week period!

Keep things that serve double duty only - like trunks (coffee table and blanket storage) etc. Also, get rolling baskets or bins for under your bed for storage. Use something like the Ikea expedit bookcase to define and separate spaces. Hang crates on wall - for storage. Remember, it's only temporary and good luck!

Wow. That does sound rough. Good luck with the move and the downsize.

Even though it might sound like a luxury, create a little private oasis that feels like your own. You will probably need your own space sometimes to retreat to - calm, comfortable, with some familiar things that you love having around you.

Very good advice from Eclectically Vintage and Ellen! .. think "less is more" as hard as it might be. You may be surprised what you can live without :) Dont sacrifice your sanity and your health - keep clutter to a minimum so you have space to feel.. breath. If you dont want to or cant do much for art.. think about some pictures or posters that make you feel good.. feel like home. Good luck with your move and this big transition, you can do it!
