Advice on undermount sinks

We are about to embark on a small master bath remodel. We already have picked out the slab granite but are agonizing over what type of sinks to choose. We have seen some great looking top mount but realize that an undermount shows off the granite better and is easier for cleanup. But what material should we choose for the sinks? CR reports the most reliable is stainless steel, with enamel coated steel being next, etc. with enamel coated cast iron being last. We have always purchased cast iron and have never really liked the stainless look. The most available undermount sinks are virteous china (porcelain) which we thought were the cheapest in quality. Anyone have any advice?

I have a porcelain under-mount for over 6years. Still looks good.. no problems what so ever. Will definitely choose this again.

I have a copper under-mount sink. The sink comes with the patina in tact but as you use the sink, (especially the dish cleaning side) the patina goes away no matter how careful you are. There are kits you can use to kind of stain the patina back on, but I like the way the real copper color comes through. I am actually toiling with the idea of stripping the patina so the sink is all the copper color we enjoy most. Sorry to go on and on, but I am very happy with my copper sink. It is also one of the best sinks to reduce bacteria from whatever you wash in it. Hope this helps.

We have remodeled 2 bathrooms, & used Kohler porcelain on steel sinks. Love them, easy to clean& are now going to use same in a Sandy shore redo! Definitely go under mount-so much easier to keep clean.

@Linda, I'm sorry, our Kohler bathroom sinks are vitreous china, 4 yrs. old. We love them, easy to clean & look like new. Our kitchen remodel was 2 1/2 yrs. ago; it is a Kohler enameled cast iron. Due to weight, underm ount style, hanging from granite, this needed additional support, a basket supplied by granite yard. Love all of them. Kitchen sink ordered by Home Depot, bathroom sinks ordered by Ferguson plumbing supply.
