Install a Refrigerator Water Filter

This involved connecting the water line from outside to one end of a filter, and connecting the refrigerator's water line to the other end of the filter. This type of filter is also sometimes called an "ice maker kit".
Advice:
Do - Turn off the water line before beginning.
Do - Make sure to have the appropriate connections for either end of the filter. This usually means you will need a "compressor valve", which is ordinarily a 3/4" to 1/4" type valve, but you will want to consult someone (perhaps at your local hardware store) first.
Do - Install the water line into the filter (not the refrigerator side) first, and turn on the water to make sure it can pass through the filter efficiently before hooking the other end up to the refrigerator.
Do - Allow water to pass through the filter for at least one minute before drinking.
Don't - Overtorque connections to either side of the filter. It is typically plastic, and excessive force can be damaging to the seal.
I first turned off the water under the sink. I then took the water line (already installed) intended to be the water supply for the refrigerator, and screwed one end into a 3/4" to 1/4" compression valve. I screwed the water filter into the smaller end of this valve. I then bent the water line in order to get it to point toward the kitchen sink above, and turned on the water. This allowed me to ensure the water can pass through the filter, and that there are no leaks. I allowed it to run for a few minutes per the instructions on the filter's installation guide. I then turned the water off under the sink to proceed to the next step. I then screwed the other end of the filter into the refrigerator's water line, and turned the water on under the sink. I tested it thoroughly to ensure there were no leaks and to ensure the water pressure was adequate.
Materials:
Refrigerator Water Filter - $0.00
Compression Valve - $0.00
Wrench - $0.00
leave enough space behind the refrigerator for your filter & water line. Instructions should tell how much.
