Dining Room Paint-Over
by

Note: I had to re-write this entire project due to getting logged out when I was finished, so I may end up leaving out some information that was once there.
Being the central room of my home, the dining room was very "plain Jane" and had mismatched decorations. By removing a large built in cabinetry unit that did not match the home's character, along with painting the room a bold burnt orange, the room has a distinctive presence in my home.
*Options I considered for this project:
I debated on several color options. I knew I wanted contrasting colors above and below the chair rail. I chose the palette based on the existing curtains.
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
After removing the build in Ikea cabinetry, I realized I had to replace some shoe moulding that was missing from that wall. Not a big expense, and was very easy to do thankfully
*My motivation to do this project:
I hated the previous color of the room, a bland beige, and because this room is at the center of the home, that bland color can be seen from every room. I knew I wanted a bold color to stand out as I looked on from the other living spaces.
*Project Steps:
I taped many paint samples all over a wall I could see from my living room and me and my friends would remove a color we disliked each day, until I narrowed it down to the best option, a burnt orange.
Advice:
Do: think about your color choices. Make sure the colors work with the adjoining rooms
Don't: rush through the prep process. Make sure to thoroughly spackle any holes and dents, and you'll be thankful in the end. Also be sure to use painters tape to cover all of your moulding completely.
Materials:
Behr Premium Plus Ultra Paint - $35.00
Shoe Moulding - $5.00
Mitre Saw - $30.00
8 Frames for Art - $130.00
