Powder Room Renovation

Removing the existing wallpaper from my powder room walls and painting them.
*Options I considered for this project:
I was determined to remove the paper and paint, but the only options that I considered were centered around the color. I thought of using a red tone originally, but it ended up being yellow.
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
The friend that actually painted the walls thought that the existing light fixture did not go with the yellow paint tone, so she replaced the fixture as well!
*My motivation to do this project:
After nearly 17 years, the wallpaper had begun to peel back in places and look very tired. I was ready to have a solid color in the powder room and have the ability to decorate around it.
*Project Steps:
I purchased the wallpaper remover gel and a putty knife for scraping. When that proved futile, I hired a contractor to complete the job of removing paper. I then had a friend to come in and smooth out the rough areas, then paint.
Advice:
DO: Be willing to make a somewhat drastic change to a room to make it "new."
DON'T: Start the project and then wait a month before giving up!
Materials:
Paint - $25.00
Accent paint - $10.00
Wallpaper remover - $8.00
Putty knife - $4.00
LIght fixture - $25.00
The yellow was perfect with the existing white wicker shelf and blinds.
My friend replaced the brass light fixture with this pewter toned, three-light fixture, which matched the paint much better.
The touches of blue went very nicely against the yellow walls.
My friend repainted the face of a blue cabinet with a darker shade of yellow to give consistency to the main color scheme.
The blue, green and yellow checked curtains added the right amount of color to the window area.

$72 does not seem too high. Of course I don't kn oew the size of the room. Cutains and corner shelves add qalot. Would you recommend the contractor?
