Wash by hand, use Dishwasher as drying rack!

Save money by using a Dishwasher as a drying rack only. *Options I considered for this project: The dishes have to get clean so why not do it the old fashion way and save space at the same time. *Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project: Dishes no longer have to pile up in the sink, and you don't need to waste paper towels or electricity. *My motivation to do this project: Save on electric bills and put a smile on your face!
Project Steps:
- Use a natural dishwashing liquid that is great on your septic system and leaves no unhealthy residue.
- Wash dishes directly in sink.
- Open Dishwasher and remove any dishes already dried.
- Filter in newly washed dishes and utensils.
- Store dried dishes and other utensils for later use.
Advice: Clean and dry dishes and utensils often to keep a healthy kitchen and home environment. You will save money on running your Dishwasher and keep your kitchen constantly clean.

3po3 on Oct 12, 2010I'm so conflicted about dishwashers. I have finally started using one now that I am a stay-at-home working dad. I don't have time to wash dishes by hand. On the other hand, I'm not too worried about it because I have read that washing by hand uses more water and more energy (to heat the water) than a dishwasher. Do you know how much water you are using as compared to using the dishwasher?
