From Worn to Beautiful- A Customer's Curbside Furniture Find Redo
by

(IC: homeowner)
A customer brought us this dresser for a makeover. She actually saved this and its matching pieces from going to the curb. The customer's vision was a distressed white with a stained top. Sounds beautiful, right?
This old piece had a couple of sticky drawers
Customer didn't want to save the inlays
First thing we tackled was stripping the top. Stripping revealed the beautiful wood hiding underneath. After we stripped the top, we taped it off to protect it from the paint. We didn't want to stain first because we didn't want to take the chance of the tape ruining the new finish.
(We are missing some photos of painting) We used a beautiful off-white paint on the dresser with a little bit of distressing. It was easy to know where to distress this piece to make it look natural since it had a lot if natural wear underneath. After painting we wrapped and taped the dresser then stained the top using a beautiful Mahogany stain that has a sealer already in it. Gorgeous, right?
The pulls were so pretty and unique. We wanted to just highlight the details. We cleaned them and used an Antique Gold and Bronze paint to highlight the details.
Finished product
We finished off the dresser with a wonderful non-toxic liquid wax that gave it a nice depth and light sheen.
The customer loved the results and brought us another piece. This is the next piece to the matching set. We are looking forward to tranforming this piece to match. What an inexpensive way to save some old discarded pieces and get a custom design!

Maxine Sheehan on Jul 18, 2015Beautiful work. However I don't understand the customer wanting the inlay covered. It's extremely difficult to do and really increases the value of the piece. I would give my right arm to have some inlaid furniture.
