WallsTreat Studio/ Kass Wilson on Sep 04, 2012Just by the nature of the product, every brush stroke will be seen. Unlike a quality latex paint, it does not offer complete coverage with one coat. Nor does it level out. The idea is that you will be sanding it so that each layer of paint will show through. A good brush or roller will help but not eliminate the problem you are experiencing.Helpful Reply

Terra Gazelle on May 10, 2015I make my own chalk paint and do not have to sand really. It is smooth, kind of like a pudding, it takes two to three coats, depending on the color under it. . I use pop but use warm water and mix well..then mix, mix again. I also use a tad more water..it is not a paste, it is more of a creamy peanut butter, maybe a little loser. When I mix the pop and warm water together with the paint I mix well..mix, mix. I have an old hand mixer that I use for larger amounts. I use sample size paints, some times the cheapest latex in the quarts making sure there is no primer. I use the sample containers to store the paint in..or good sealed jars. The paint lasts sometimes for weeks. You Tube has wonderful videos on how to paint furniture with chalk paint. Whether you buy your chalk paint or make it, the technique is the same. I love painting furniture...it has become a small business for me that I have fun doing as well as turning junk to treasures for my own home.Helpful Reply
