The water that fills my toilet tank just trickles in. Help!

It is not the stopper. There is a small trickle of water entering from the pipes. I took off the top where the water enters and cleaned off all hard water and also checked the tube for tears or kinks, there are none. It takes about 40 minutes for the tank to fill so toilet can flush again.

Could something be wrong with the valve?

I'd call a plumber. If it's running for 40 mins, his cost will be more than covered by the price of wasted water on your bill.

Has the valve behind/below (usually near the floor) the tank somehow gotten turned most of the way off? This can happen with mopping/cleaning the floor sometimes.

Dirt/rust has stopped up the inlet valve controlled by the float, the replacement valve should cost less than $10 if you do it yourself, the task is simple but can make a mess, you'll need towels! Some of these valves can be disassembled and cleaned, some can not..replace it and the problem should be fixed!

My husband said "replace he supply line". See Pete comment above too. Good luck.

I had the same problem and it resolved every time if I simply turned on the bathroom sink directly after using the toilet (as in when washing hands). Good luck. If that doesn't work for you I would also call a plumber as someone else has suggested.

I had the same problem and found that the inlet valve seal was warped. I removed it and flow was normal again.
