10-Day Thanksgiving Day Countdown

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and if you’re hosting this year’s Turkey-fest, then I’m sure your head is overwhelmed with tasks to get your home in order. Never fear with Clean & Proper here! Below you’ll find your special 10-Day Thanksgiving Countdown to help you plan accordingly. Good luck!
Day 10:

Taking into consideration any special dietary needs of your guests, put together your final menu and shopping list to help you sort out exactly what you need. If you use Relay Foods or Peapod, start putting together your order now so you can pick up your groceries next week, and make sure everything is available. Hopefully you have already purchased your turkey. Check the required defrost time necessary for your turkey and plan accordingly.

Day 9:

Decide on the decorations and centerpieces you plan to use for your Thanksgiving table. Create a shopping list of any necessary craft items or decorative pieces you’ll need to buy. Plan out seating arrangements, if necessary.

Day 8:

Pick up any remaining non-perishable ingredients as well as craft items or decorative pieces. Make arrangements with your local florist if necessary.
Day 7:

Clean out your refrigerator to make room for ingredients, any items that will need chilling the day of Thanksgiving and any post-Thanksgiving leftovers.

Day 6:

Tend to any outdoor household chores such as raking up leaves or sweeping up the front porch.

Day 5:

Get up early and go grocery shopping for your non-perishables. Grab yourself a delicious cup of coffee and head out bright and early to round-up your Thanksgiving meal necessities. There’s a good chance you’ll have to go to more than one store, so I recommend taking care of your grocery shopping first thing in the day.
Day 4:

Decide which china, glassware and table linens you’re going to use. Start putting out serving platters and serving utensils so you can organize which platter will be used for each meal item. Use post-it notes to label each item so there is no confusion come Thanksgiving. Polish your silver and wash any of the serving items that need a little cleaning before use. Defrost your turkey if you haven’t already started to do so.

Day 3:

Time to clean! Be sure to scrub down your kitchen, living room, guest bathrooms and any other public spaces that guests will visit during their stay. Be sure to put out fresh hand towels in your guest bath and extra towel rolls. Don’t forget to vacuum! If you have overnight guests staying with you, be sure to freshen up your guest room with clean linens and a vase of fresh flowers.
Day 2:

Arrange your centerpieces and other decorative items. Chill your beverages such as white wine and champagne. Time to shop for your perishable meal items! Pre-wash any fruits and vegetables so they are dry and ready for cooking. Are there any dishes that can be made this far in advance? If not, sit back and wait until tomorrow!

Day 1:

Are there any dishes that can be prepared today? What about the cranberry sauce? Brush up on any light cleaning. Take out the trash and recycling. Create staging areas for food prep, desserts, coffee and drinks. Stock up salt and pepper shakers and coffee supplies with necessary items.
Day 0:

It’s go time! Assign specific family members to help you and be sure to follow your Cooking Plan of Attack and Holiday Meal Planner to keep you organized!
