White Christmas Decorations

Adventures In Junking

I've expanded my transfer rocks to include vintage Christmas images and have moved beyond rocks to turn burned-out lightbulbs, scraps of lumber and bits of broken tile into simple but lovely Christmas decorations. decorations
and lots and lots of painted pinecones. Lots and lots.

A burned out light bulb, a bit of gesso and gel medium, a Victorian Santa image and a strip of torn cotton makes a simple, pretty Christmas tree ornament.
Remember the childhood threats that if you weren't good, Santa would put lumps of coal or rocks in your stocking? My friends look forward to getting my Christmas rocks in their holiday baskets. They don't have to be big to have a bit impact. These little beauties are great for adding to holiday tablescapes, plant pots or décor collections.
A scrap of lumber from the waste pile at a construction site on my street, a few layers of crackled paint, a Christmas music image from the Graphics Fairy.... is going to be a nice decoration on the hot cider table at the Goggs Avenue Caroling Party I'm organizing in our little children's park next month.
Christmas rocks on so many levels. And these standing rocks are perfect hostess gifts that end up on mantles, porches - even in gardens (and I spray with outdoor poly just in case).

A broken piece of tile and a vintage Santa image will welcome holiday guests to a friend's front porch or entry garden.
And this funny shaped rock will bring joy to a friend's spectacular garden. And the vintage Santa rock is going in a holiday gift basket.
These mantle/porch rocks are going to be inexpensive but unique and lovely hostess gifts for some of the many parties I'm looking forward to.
I found the parts of a lantern curbside some time ago and thought I would try to find replacements for missing parts and restore it. But this morning I saw the top as a rustic cloche. The spire top lends itself to Christmas décor.
I'm making a whole White Christmas Tree "forest" and i'll post that separately soon, but here's a little preview. A couple of curbside rescues last month provided me with several terra cotta flower pots.

T
the bases are junk, too - an old candle stand and,.. a bathroom plunger (relax, I boiled it first to sterilize it).
