How to make tile coasters with photos

I want to put photos of my nephews wedding on tiles to make coasters. The tiles are shiny do I need to sand them? Can I print the photos right onto regular paper and use modge podge to adhere them to the tile? and the most important question is what kind of sealant do I put on once it is finished and how many coats. I want to make sure that they can use these for years, and not have something happen if they put a hot drink or cold wet drink on them. Thanks Annie

Modge podge normally won't be affected by water after it dries. Might want to test it before you commit the photos/tiles to the effect. Don't forget to put felt on the back!

Outdoor Modpodge (yes, there is such a thing) is the only one WATERPROOF after it dries. Regular MP is not. I would seal either one to be on the safe side. I just used a spray lacquer on a project, and it worked great. Also, if you print with an inkjet printer, the ink will likely smear. I usually just get laser prints made off. They are cheap, and do not smear!

I have done this with pictures of dogs I cut from a calendar with some success. I believe where I failed was not top coating enough which I would do at least 3 times next time. Outdoor Modpodge sounds good.
