Thanks ladies. The screws in the door look to be special like allen wrench.

Cynthia B they look like allen wrenches, but stars...no idea what they are really called. I asked the guy at Lowes. It was easy to open, and now it's clean...no more hiding with a tea towel!!! My husband is sooo not handy.

If you look at the bottom if it it looks like a screw driver, almost like a Phillips Screw Drive but when you look at the bottom of it it looks like s star. Some stoves take a plain Phillips head screw driver. I take mine apart but the idea about using tape is such a great idea!

Does anyone know why they make the oven door like this to be such a problem to clean?

This really works. I had a sugar mixture boil over and oh what a mess it made. It took some effort but I got my stove clean.

Another thing is wood ash. yup...a paste of wood ash. I learned this by buying a product at a flea market- Blue Wonder- year and years ago. I husband that little jar very carefully. Its wood ash and a surfactant and a soap.Since I cant get this anymore, I'm thinking of experimenting with making it myself. I had called the guy once and he said he had sold all rights to the stuff so didn't have anymore. *sigh*

As for the glass top stoves, there's a reason for using things made for them. It places a protective coating in all the little cracks and crevices on the stove top to protect it.

You can put dryer sheets on your stovetop and wet them with water. Let it dry and just wash it off. will be clean and the kitchen will smell so good. I put my dryer sheets on my dryer and used them again when I did laundry.
