Living with Hollywood light bar bath fixture

Question

I know nobody likes these strip light fixtures (why?) I need to refresh my 90s bath on.a limited budget...hubs wants too keep 8 bulb light fixture. Any way to make it updated, acceptable? Paint, different bulbs, mason jar globes?

yours does look good :) The only real issue I have with this fixture is that it is so bright with 8 bulbs. I've seen where mason jars are used on strip light fixtures, but they hang down. Think shorter jars would work sticking out instead of hanging down? Thought of glueing the screw lid to the light bar and then painting the jars white with high heat paint to diffuse the brightness. (I know...getting a new fixture would be easiest, but hubs really wants to keep the fixture)

I saw on Pinterest where they spray painted the fixture an updated color like oil-rubbed bronze and replaced the bulbs with Edison style bulbs. It looked great and very current. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/251568329161458378/ you can click the image for more details.

I did the same as Garden Frog!  I also changed the clear bulbs to frosted ones for a softer look.  Its more muted look makes it not as obvious.

You could paint it, as suggested by other members. Have you thought of using the clear 40 watt appliance bulbs ? They're smaller and might work better with the Mason jar globes.

To save electricity, and make them less bright, we partly unscrewed half the bulbs. Easy, but doesn't look very different. I like the jars ideas, and the Edison bulbs

I think I've resolved my issue with the Hollywood light and I greatly appreciate all of your help!  This fixture is installed above a double sink in along a wall that is 15' tall.  In a attempt to draw your eye away from both the very tall wall, high ceiling and Hollywood light fixture, I hung a vintage paned window about 9' above the light fixture.  I also painted the light strip the same color as the wall and exchanged the white bulbs for clear.  Now I have a fixture that gives much needed light in this room (no natural light except a skylight 15' up) AND a fixture that isn't the first thing you notice in the room!  thank you all, again for your creative help!
