Quality of tap water in Grandville, MI & surrounding areas?

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 08, 2015Its not uncommon for water systems to occasionally over chlorinate their water during periods of time when the water supply system has been worked on, or a repair from a local break has occurred. Forget about the surrounding areas, but I would contact your water supply to see what is happening. They can provide you with an answer to your concern. I know in our area Home Depot offers free water checks for home owners, You may want to check at your local store to see. Many water purification companies also provide low cost water analysis or even free some times. You may want to have this performed. There are many filtration products that can be installed to make your water clean, healthy and much better to use for cleaning.Helpful Reply

Hope Williams on Feb 08, 2015From personal experience, when the chlorine is particularly high, they are flushing the system. If you are concerned about other chemicals, you can always have an independent water quality text done through your local extension office or your state university. After many years of undetermined illness, ours turned out to be very high levels of arsenic. I always preach, GET YOU WATER TESTED FOR HEAVY METALS!" Lesson learned the hardest way.Helpful Reply

Nan on Feb 08, 2015Lived in that area for 13 years. We installed a softener and a system that removed the chlorine taste. Wolverine water treatment system from Lowell Michigan also installed a reverse osmosis drinking water unit. Your hair will feel different with softened water because the water is now free of anything that restricts the cleaning process. Wow did we ever save on cleaning products. Good luck in your search for answers. BTW, Wolverine offered free water analysis.Helpful Reply

Rosemary Kelly on Feb 08, 2015Some of Kentwood's water comes from the Wyoming system, some from Grand Rapids. It's all coming out of Lake Michigan unless you have a well. Grand Rapids has been fluoridating their water since 1945. It's safe, but yes there is chlorine in it.Helpful Reply

Marcy, Professional Designer, Artist and Arts and Crafts Instructor on Feb 08, 2015Being up north, we too have hard water. We just called Culligan to repair my Mom's water softener. As far as you hair goes, from experience I've used a clarifying shampoo occasionally.Helpful Reply

Sue on Feb 08, 2015Consider calling your water company with your concerns. If they don't know there's a problem, they can't fix it. Law requires a certain level of chlorine at the farthest point in the distribution system to ensure disinfection, so if you live close to the treatment plant, you could be getting a larger dose. Call your water company. They might be able to adjust their dosing practices.Helpful Reply

Mar299252 on Feb 10, 2015I lived in Cutlerville, just south of Kentwood for 20 + years and had know hard water problems. Also lived on various sides of Grand Rapids and had no problems. Don't know if that helps you at all, but that's my experience.Helpful Reply
