Our goal (DIY/home related) for 2013...curb appeal

DIY Show Off
by DIY Show Off
Previous owners re-routed the front door to the side when enclosing a front porch. We still have a few old drafty windows. And the landscaping is out of control. My wish for 2013 is for this old farmhouse to have some welcoming curb appeal.
2013 goals: front door, front entry, landscaping and a few new windows.

@Tom Dieck / TRD Designs Ltd. - the picture above IS my house as it faces the road/curb. There is no front entry, no curb appeal, no front door. The front door used to be on the far left. Previous owners enclosed the porch area and made a garage type door on the side. We currently enter through the French doors in the back. The right side of the house was an addition (late 1980s/early 90s)...no front entry there either. It's the one single thing I do not like about this old farmhouse but hope to add a front door to the enclosed porch area on the far left and turn the enclosed porch into an entryway. (?) The enclosed porch has a concrete floor with a room underneath in the basement and the original front door into the house.

Very nice farm house, looks large. Your overgrown plants are not near as bad as the ones I had to deal with when we moved into an old farmhouse. The place had been neglected and if it was in Calif (where I had moved from) it would have been condemned. Everything (ceiling, walls) was falling in. In the winter we could lay in bed and watch our breath and in the upstairs bathroom you could get snowed on while sitting on the toilet. Great house. lol. There was no insulation and while I tried fixing it up, while raising 5 children, and everything else we were involved in, just didn't have the time or money. Last year the fireman got to practice their firefighting with it. Good luck with yours. I see a lot of promise there and you have some great ideas.
