Happy New Year and Good-bye 75 Watt Incandescent Light Bulb

by LandlightS
As we enter 2013, the Energy Act of 2005/2008 outlaws the manufacture and importation of the 75 Watt Incandescent (A type) Light Bulb. The same fate that the 100 Watt (although delayed by 6 months) Light Bulb faced in 2012. They are available for retail sale limited to the inventory on hand....BUT.....don't panic.......I'll bet that there is at least an 18 month supply in inventory of retailers/wholesalers.
As more and more problems (including health risks) are discovered with the ugly CFLs, you will (if you haven't already) see a greater emphasis on LED Lamps. The LEDs are available in all shapes and recessed retro kits (which I posted about a year or so ago) and both 12 volt and 120 volt. (I no longer use a MR16 halogen lamp in my Landscape Lighting installations). Home Depot, Lowe's, Costco, Sams' Club and even Walmart along with other retailers (oddly, not too much at Ace Hardware) have increased their shelf space allocated to LEDs' and HD and Lowes' have even created larger visual displays.
When looking for LED lamps......to match the warm soft glow of the incandescent light bulb, look for a Color Temperature of 2700 - 3000K (Kevins). Most pre-assembled flood light/motion sensor fixtures use a LED rated at 5600 K which is almost the same as the florescent "cool white" bluish color.
With all that said, Happy New Year and thanks for letting me "Light Up Your Life"
Have a safe, healthy year.

Hooray for LEDs. Not so excited about the price tag, but the costs are dropping fast - and they last forever, so it can be considered an investment.
