Lisa St.Romain on Apr 14, 2015I'm thinking some kind of china cabinet/side board. I'd take a picture and bring it to an antique dealer to possibly be identified. :-)Helpful Reply

Swan Road Designs on Apr 14, 2015It's a china cabinet that dates to the '30s. Has been painted and could either be walnut or oak. Those would be the first two possible woods it is made of, but others are also a possibility. If you need a key, you might check with an antiques dealer. They often have spare keys or could have one that matches your lock.Helpful Reply

Debs on Apr 14, 2015It is a beautiful piece of furniture. If you have a locksmith nearby they may have a key to fit.Helpful Reply

Barbara on Apr 14, 2015Ebay has skeleton keys from various sellers and some sell groupings of the keys. I needed one for an old grandfather clock and lucked out for about $10.00. Still less than the clock shop, they wanted $25.00. it's a beautiful piece of furniture. Wood can loose its luster in dry climates and feel scratchy. I'd give it a good coat of lemon wax and see how the piece responds. It will protect and not harm a vintage surface.Helpful Reply

Cheryl on Apr 15, 2015Thanks everyone. I went to a local antique store and it is from the 30s and he told me to get a locksmith. I think I'm going to paint it. Any thoughts on color? I was thinking boldHelpful Reply

Elaine Simmons on Apr 15, 2015It looks so pretty just the way it is but of course there is not a closeup of the pic so can't really tell. If it were me, I would not go bold but if that is what you like, more power to you.Helpful Reply

Aleshabillie on Apr 15, 2015First of all, if the piece is from the 30s, and you want to sell it DO NOT PAINT IT if you want to get any money for it, antique buyers will always pay more for something if they can get it as close to original as possible.Helpful Reply

Eva on Aug 29, 2016It looks like it was facing the front door of a house, for setting down keys and what not. But most I have seen, have at the sides a bar and foot for umbrellasHelpful Reply

Swan Road Designs on Aug 29, 2016Definitely from the '30s and is a type of china cabinet. Beautiful, graceful design features and wood grain pattern. It would be almost a crime to paint it. I'd say strip it and stain a light blonde. It would fit in any decor with that light shade. If you HAVE to paint it, I say color it a soft shade of dove grey.Helpful Reply

LibraryKAT on Aug 29, 2016Looks like a 1920s or early 1930s piece that someone has already started to strip (unless that is the paint color?). I've seen many console radio cabinets and dining room sets in that general style.Helpful Reply

Leggering on Aug 30, 2016It almost looks like a 'bar back'. Many bars had a piece like this to hold their premium liqueurs.Helpful Reply
