I needed a table for the entry ... something to drop keys and mail on when I come home. This old pottery barn sofa table did the trick... but the ochre color had to go! I wanted a pop of color in my new beachy colored living room, so I painted it with homemade chalk paint.
I loved the ochre color when I painted it to match the tuscan decor in my old house, but now it's got to go!
Altho I was using chalk paint, I gave it a good sanding...
Then painted it with my homemade chalk paint ( I used http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/pm20 mixed with Rainbow sundry products commercial whiting, which I also bought at Benjamin Moore) 2 parts paint to 1 part commercial whiting (chalk).
...another view ...
Scout and I then waited for it to dry!
Then I gave it a coat of homemade chalk pant using http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/candygreen
Then I decided that it needed a dark coat so that when I "distressed" it, it would show up better! So I have it a coat of homemade chalk paint using http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/mustang
Then another coat of candy green ...
Some distressing ... and a napping beagle named Oliver!
More distressing on the edges, then an application of dark wax. The next day I did a clear wax.
Then I found this stencil on clearance at JoAnne's Fabrics so I decided to make a raised detail with spackling! Then I painted over that once it was dry.
A little more distressing and dark wax and light wax ...
anchors away!
The finished product
... and there she is! I haven't set it up with all of the doodads and baskets and this wonderful handcrafted leaf bowl I bought at a local arts fair just yet, because I'm waiting for the wax to really harden! I'll post a photo when it's all staged!
