Blue Painted Nightstand

I picked up this piece for a custom order I was working on. I knew immediately upon seeing it that it was going to be a rewarding makeover! The piece has great lines, is well made and still in good condition. Here is the Before picture.
This nightstand was meant to coordinate with a chest I painted awhile back. Good for me, because I happened to love that chest, and was more than happy to replicate the style of it on another piece. Also good for me, I documented what I did on the first piece so I remembered the custom color I created for the piece (50/50 mix of Annie Sloan Aubusson Blue and Graphite finished with both clear and dark wax). I also stained the top to give it a fresh look. Here is how it turned out.
I absolutely loved the original hardware, so to make it more noticeable against the dark blue base, I sprayed it with a coat of RustOleum Gold Spray Paint.
I also used a Gold Gilding Paint on the carved detailing edges. This really tied in the gold hardware.
The overall contrast of the blue base, dark stained top and gold details really give the piece a rich feel.
It may be a smaller piece of furniture, but in my opinion, no less gratifying to redo.
