A while back, I posted before and after photos of my painted kitchen cabinets with new hardware here on Hometalk. I recently painted the walls a new color and added some decorative pieces and wanted to share some of the updates
I took the top photo of my kitchen several years ago....long before I started my blog. I snapped the photo on my phone one night in an attempt to get it on the Personal Color Viewer on Benjamin Moore’s website. This is the best before picture I have, but I wish I had taken one in the daytime for better comparison.

I couldn’t have been happier with the new look of our kitchen cabinets. As much as I liked the color I chose to paint the kitchen walls when we first moved in, I still wanted a lighter color to brighten the kitchen even more since it doesn't get much light. It still was far better than the tan/gold paint that was not only on the walls, but also on the ceiling when we moved in (yikes!).
One of the recent updates was a simple project I did, sanding and adding two coats of finishing oil to my Grandfather's butcher block. He used this block when he was a butcher at the old A & P grocery store in town, many years ago. His butcher block makes a nice island in our kitchen to prepare food and it stands out much more now that the cabinets are painted.
I had also been on a very long search for cafe curtains for the window above the sink so I could add a little more color. I didn't have any luck finding cafe curtains I like...that were in my budget anyway. I found these napkins at World Market for around $4.00 a piece, and used clip rings and a tension rod to hang them.
We also created a small wall collage that includes framed photos of our children and the old yellow clock that used to hang in my husband's grandparent's farm house. That clock is the reason I chose the colors I did for my kitchen updates. Sounds silly to decorate the kitchen around a small kitchen clock, but I love the color and it's a little reminder of his grandparents!
I replaced the boring vertical blinds that hung over our 8ft. sliding glass door with these yellow curtains I found at Target. I think they go great with the yellow clock and I really like the pattern.
This small mood board was created before I started decorating. The tile is actually an idea to complete my fireplace makeover, which is in our kitchen. I hope to have a rug and new light fixture soon...working on it a little at a time!
I'm so happy with the way our kitchen is coming along and hope to have more updates to share soon!
Enjoyed the project?
