Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove snakes (brown water snake I think) from a backyard pond. Our beautiful koi have been disappearing and I have seen this thug but don't know how to rid our pond of this nemesis, thanks in advance (live in NC).

I used to get them in my pool all the time, which makes for unhappy swimmers. I was told to. try an old deterrent of a line of surfer powder all the way around the perimeter and snakes wouldn't cross it. Now I had to keep it up especially if it rained. It smelled pretty bad but I haven't seen them since. I honestly do not know if that was it or they just went away, but it is worth a try. Those things are not poisonous but extremely aggressive and do not get scared away easily. Good luck!

@Kimberly A Hi, Kimberly - my daughter lives in Chesapeake! Anyway, would that sulfer powder harm pets? I don't have a problem with snakes in the pond but I do have at least 3 very large Texas Rat Snakes in the yard. They are after the mole population but I raise Miniature and Toy Schnauzers in the room that opens into the yard with a doggie door. I am afraid of those snakes coming into the room, through the bars of the dog crates and eating newborn and very small puppies!! Elevating the crates will not work, I have watched these snakes stand right up on their tails to get where they want to go.

I had a 9000 gallon pond about 20 feet from the river..Got them all the time.Mine was covered in rocks and if you are a lucky shot you can get them with a b b gun..Betwwen the rocks and the very heavy liner I did not have any leaks..A lot of them would hide under the water fall..Did not mind getting them there because it was above the water line and the b bs did not seem to bother anything..

You can also put mothballs out there..Be careful cause you do not want the pets getting them..
