Well, here's the answer: stencils! From detailed floral patterns to simple geometrical designs, stencil makeovers have saved many an awkward space or uninspiring room. The next time you’re sighing over what to do with those tough to decorate spaces in your home, these 8 decor Cinderella stories will inspire your creativity, so that you can turn that misfit spot into a magical one.
1. Boring bathroom wall to grown-up glamour
Stumped by an awkward wall, this DIY couple weren’t sure how to get the sophisticated look their master bathroom needed, until the perfect pairing struck them: board and batten, and a delicate stencil. After some assembling and painting, their bathroom is all grown up and looking fine!
2. Empty under the bed space to hidden retreat
Any kind of organization is nice, but beautiful organizers are a treat to have in your home. So, when it came time to put the awkward empty space beneath this Hometalker’s loft bed to good use, she hung up a brilliant organizer made from stenciled pegboard and a matching curtain for privacy.
3. Tired patio table to rich metallic beauty
With an old patio table and chairs in desperate need of a transformation, this Hometalker was itching to attack it with a stencil and some paint, and the outcome? Absolutely designer. The Plexiglas tabletop got a rich metallic overlay, and the dining set perfectly completes the backyard oasis.
4. Habitat Restore rescue to French stunner
Many people shop Habitat Restore, but most of them don't think about poetry while they do it. This romantic DIYer had French poetry on the brain, even as she spotted a chunky little coffee table. With a couple coats of chalk paint, a touch of distressing, and a large, loose-lettered stencil, this coffee table was ready to be the belle of the ball.
5. Blank wall to butterfly-filled bathroom
While stencils can save a piece of furniture or an uninspiring wall, they don’t actually have to touch the surface at all to make a difference! Instead of stenciling directly on her wall, this artistic Hometalker turned empty canvases into pretty decoration to line her blank bathroom (the same trick would work for textile decor details).
6. Plain beige to elegant icicled design
Some people use stencils as a sort of wallpaper stand in, but if you’re willing to think outside the box, you can create your very own customized look that only paint could make. These beige walls got a fresh, unique look, with a stenciled dripping icicle style, and it totally transformed this space!
7. Factory finish sofa table to captivating console
This petite sofa table had a great shape, but its finish was pretty run-of-the-mill, until one stencil-wielding Hometalker was able to strip off that factory finish and give it some bold, two-toned class. To finish it off, a French poem stencil lends a touch of exotic mystery to this captivating piece.
8. Plain laundry room to faux brick background
Nothing livens up a tired, tight laundry room like a bold patterned wall, which was the inspiration behind this faux brick makeover. With stained, marked-up, and just plain boring walls, this DIYer decided that her bedroom was begging for a stenciled makeover. Now that it’s over, there’s no argument - wow!

Stacy Davis on Jul 22, 2015This was such a fun project and I just can't seem to stop stenciling with my stencil. I have done to date, an accent table, a pegboard, magnet board and a shower curtain and I probably am not stopping yet. And when I use different colors, it totally changes the look and feel of the stenciled project!
