Can this be used as a kitchen splashback if painted over a few times to protect it? Is there also a pvc type paintable wall paper?

I've never heard of PVC wallpaper, but what's known as paintable wallpaper would work just fine as a back splash. The raised areas can be damaged, but I can't seeing that as a problem since one doesn't often knock things into a back splash. I have some on a cabinet that I use almost daily and in four years there's been no damage at all.

I agree. Only use a poly of some sort to help protect against staining.

Make sure you use a sealer and a high or semi gloss paint.

Since it is paper, I would consider covering with a piece of plexi glass, using clear mirror holder. You can get either one at Lowes or Home Depot and they will it to size.

I have used this type of wallpaper as a back splash in a previous kitchen. I didn't even paint mine and it worked great. Please note that it was not used behind the range or in back of a sink due to the lay out of the kitchen. But it is easily paint able so can withstand lots of abuse. I loved it.

@Kathrine Anderson So you think it would be fine behind a sink though if I have to?

Go for it. It's a lot cheaper than tile, and could be stripped off at some future time if you wanted to.without a major mess.

Oh yes. I think you might just want to paint or seal it maybe to protect it from splashes. I really liked the look of it. Good luck! If you decide to do it post a pic!
