In all honesty, you only really need one set of salt and pepper shakers — two, if you throw huge parties or host dinners. But if you have more than one set, count yourself lucky, because there are tons of things you can do with ordinary salt and pepper shakers. In fact, raid your local thrift shop or dollar store for shaker supplies, and check out a few of our favorites:
1. Winter Tablescape Decorations
Turn your simple set of glass shakers into a few wintertime table pals with paint and some charming details. Don’t forget the burlap scarves!
2. Charming Bud Vases
Twist off those metal tops and add a coat of paint, to create the perfect spot to display colorful flowers and blooms.
3. Vintage Ornaments
Add a little decoration to some vintage glass shakers, string a wire through the tops, and have them sparkling and ready to hang on your Christmas tree, or line a chandelier.
4. Spring Garden Flowers
Using a set of glass platters, cups, and shakers, make large gleaming garden ornaments packed with color to decorate your flower beds.
5. Magical Snow Globes
If you’ve got a spare set, turn two shakers into matching snow globes filled with wonderland scenes, including tiny trees.
6. Vintage Shaker Pin Cushion
Make a chic little spot to stick your pins, by combining a shaker top with a DIY cushion bottom. Pick up a few extras from the thrift store to make sure every pin has a place.
7. Craft Glitter Storage
Use extra salt and pepper shakers to make your crafting much easier, by filling them with colorful sparkles and keeping them close by for craft time.
8. Weighted Photo Holders
Display your favorite photos on your desktop and mantel in these sweet repurposed picture holders that have just the right mix of shabby and chic.
9. Dreamy Outdoor Lighting
Instantly update your outdoor spaces, by picking up a set of boring glass shakers and turning them into delicate shades for a spare string of fairy lights.
