I was inspired by witch hats hanging on the ceiling and wanted to do something different and more colorful. So, I decided to go for a fresh pink look.

Here's how I made these adorable DIY miniature witch hats out of pink felt.

DIY felt witch hats

Tools and materials:

  • Felt sheet
  • Scissors
  • Glitter tulle
  • Hot glue
  • Stuffing
  • Sewing pins
  • Ribbon
Placing the template on the felt

1. Make a template

I already had my template made by using a cereal box. I made my template 4 inches in height.

Glitter tulle

2. Place glitter tulle on top

I grabbed some glitter tulle from the Dollar Tree and placed that over the pink felt sheet, securing it with a sewing pin.

Cutting the felt

3. Cut out the witch hat shape

Now secured, I went ahead and cut out the shape of the witch hat.

Gluing the pieces together

4. Glue the pieces together

With my hot glue gun, I glued the seam and made sure it was nice and neat.

Cone and circular base for the witch hat

5. Make the base

I did not measure the circle I just winged it making it look proportional to the top portion.

Stuffing the hat

6. Stuff the hat

Then with some stuffing, I stuffed the witch hat. For the stuffing, I used an old pillow that I didn't need anymore. You can always recycle a stuffed animal or pillow.

Adding the glitter tulle

7. Add the glitter tulle

Grabbing the same tulle that I wrapped the hat with, I cut out another long piece to wrap around the bottom of the hat. I tied that down and added some hot glue dots on the sides.

Cutting ribbon for the hat

8. Add ribbon

I also used some clear light pink ribbon from Dollar Tree and wrapped it over the tulle. For the ribbon, I did add a tail, so I made sure to keep it long.

Bow for the back side of the hat

I made a bow and hot glued this piece to the back side of the hat.

Cutting out ribbon for the buckle

9. Add the buckle

Now I needed a buckle detail for the front of the hat. I used the glitter ribbon again to cut a square piece and hot glue that to the hat.

DIY felt witch hats

I really enjoyed creating these cute miniature witch hats. You can use them as a tag by just adding a string on the top; attach it to a boo basket for your kids.

These would also be cute to hang on the ceiling for decor or as a wand topper, using a dowel.
