Our Christmas decorations tend to be more folksy and crafty than elegant. But this year, I wanted to change our decorations to something more cohesive and pulled together. I also didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I've been making some new ornaments to decorate our home. This angel wing Christmas tree decoration fits in with my new decorating style, but is still inexpensive and easy to make.

This ornament is made with polymer clay and a small frame. Don't be afraid it you've never worked with clay before - this ornament is easy to make and I have all the steps with photos on my blog.

The first step is to choose a frame. Pick a small, light frame that you can remove the glass and backing from completely.

Next, roll out some polymer clay to cut out the angel wing templates. These templates are posted with my tutorial , but you can use a different wing shape if you choose.

Then start adding feathers to your angel wings. To create the feathers, roll a small teardrop piece of clay in your fingers. Place it on the bottom edge of your angel wing. Then take a small rounded tool (like the end of a paintbrush) and push down in the center of your teardrop to make it stick to your wing. Then pull toward the top of your wing to flatten the tail of your teardrop to form a small feather (see photo above).

Continue adding feathers to your wings so that they are completely covered. I have more step by step photos on my blog.

Then bake your clay wings according to the manufacturer's directions.

While your wings cool, you can decorate your frame. I added a few small silver branches and a little heart to my frame. When my frame was complete, I glued my wings in place with some super glue.

These are the basic steps, but there are more details in my tutorial. I hope you try making some of your own ornaments this year!
