Thistles take over one side of my garage..remove permanently?

These thistles get more invasive each year. I pull them out but the root breaks off down in the soil and comes back with a vengence. How can I permanently get rid of them?

unplantable for anything else. Far better to paint the thistles with an herbicide, or a vinegar-based product if you don't want to go that route. See more advice here:

What is the best way to fix water leaking in the basement?

During the last week heavy rain, I notice in one corner of my basement there is water leaking. Whom should I call to fix it? Or is this something home owner to fix it himself?

There are two methods used today. Water proofing, done outside and water control done inside. ...»
Ideally you want to do the outside if at all possible. While pitching soils, capping soils with clay based materials, piping water from gutters away from the house will slow down the effect of moisture or water coming in, the fact remains water will still leak into the house because you have done nothing to stop it only moved it away from the leaky wall.

Painting the walls on the inside looks fine, but over time they will begin to leak again. Installing french drains on the inside will help control the water, but again the water is coming into the house. Digging soils outside down to the footing, then cleaning, and sealing the walls using asphalt and few other items is really the only correct way to water proof.

Depending upon your ability level, depth of foundation and extent of the issue, you may be much better off having this work done for you.

  • Sort, discard things you do not need, and label and straighten what is left.
  • Make sure all items are off the floor. Hooks and pegboard keep mops, brooms, and garden items off the floor for cleanliness and seldom used items like clotheslines are easily found.
  • Group similar items in marked boxes. I used cardboard boxes from Sam's Club and spray painted them with chalkboard paint.

How to Hide a Water Heater - Realtor Secret Exposed!!

Our RE/MAX Gateway Real Estate Team was getting ready to List a BEAUTIFUL Condo for Sale, but the one issue that had always bothered our Seller was how to hide an ugly water heater located in the Laundry/Mud Room between the Garage and Kitchen. The space was very small and required plenty of venting, so building a wall was out of the question. We headed to Ikea and purchased the Kvartal Curtain Rods that could be mounted on the ceiling and featured a curved connector and curtain ...»

Hello, Betty! This was a fun project thanks to IKEA. We used the Mitre Box that is sold next ...»
to the Kvartal Curtain Rods to cut the Kvartal Metal Rods to the proper length before connecting the 2 long rods to the curved center piece. There always seems to be a change of stock in curtains - we picked a $19 set of 2 panels that was not too heavy, but also not too sheer, since the idea was to hide the water heater while allowing proper ventilation. You could probably use any curtain with a curtain rod that could be mounted to the ceiling (we needed extra long curtains because her ceiling was 10 ft tall!) I have seen clients use Tension Shower Rods with pretty Fabric Curtains if the Washing Machine and Dryer are hidden in a Closet Area. Best of luck with your project ~ We would love to see how it turns out! Thank you for your very nice post. Beth & Susie

  • It looks like marble...
  • As nice as it looks, I would not place any "leakers" on this floor as it may leave stains...

Can you polish a garage floor? Really?

Well, yes and no. It can be done. Yet not all garages are candidates for these solutions. Its best to start with a new., clean surface.
