I want to paint them but don't know where tostart or if it is possible to sand them smoothe enough to paint.

There is no way to fix pressed wood. Water damage causes the fibers to swell and weakens the ...»
wood considerably. It will continue to get worse as it absorbs moisture from the air. If it's just the doors, I would definitely remove them. If the boxes have only small spots of damage (especially on the edges and non load bearing spots) you may be able to sand the damaged areas and seal them with wood glue or latex paint, but it will only be a cosmetic repair. The spots will be weaker than the rest of the wood, and if not properly sealed may continue to 'puff up' and rot.

What a Trim Install Really Looks Like

Trimming out a room can really give it that high-end, crisp and clean look.

It's really inexpensive too. Would you believe that I spent only $60 on moulding and ...»

trimmed out the bottom of 2 rooms, plus an entire attic space? Oh, and add about 12 windows and doors too. I'm not kidding. We have a lot of entry ways in our NY house.But.....it's a lot of work. And has me hesitant toward whether or not we would do it again. Let me explain the whole process to you in steps. Because there's a lot of them. And when you think you're done, there's a few more.

Reclaimed Industrial Vanity

I really like the industrial look, so I came up with a vanity plan that's different from your typical vanity. I raided my dad's barn for some 2x6 tongue-and-groove boards and bought a ...»
stash of galvanized pipe for the legs and supports. It was pretty quick and easy to build, though it did take some time to figure out. I need to find some good baskets to fit on the shelves, and stock up on nicer towels! But we really like the vanity and so far its worked out great. Step by step tutorial on my blog.

Wood Planter Boxes

We wanted to grow some pole beans, but there wasn't any room in our raised beds, so my husband built some wood planter boxes. I designed and stained the boxes and planted the beans and ...»

Your set up is much prettier than ours. Our bean poles are pretty utilitarian. We had the same ...»
problem with a lack of space, so my husband and I bought 10 foot furring strips and nailed them along the long side of one of our boxes. We then ran string between the poles for the beans to twine up. It's worked great for the past 3 years.

Pantry Remodel!

The standard pantries in the house we bought last year were almost unusable. Long deep shelves and only 3-4 of them in a large closet sized area. Thank heavens they had doors. I designed ...»
the shelves, my husband cut them out of MDF boards, I painted them with several coats of paint, and he installed them with aluminum channel. The channel allowed use of the shelf all the way to the back of the space. I counted and measured all the things in my food pantry to make the plan for how many shelves, how wide, tall and deep they needed to be. See the beginning and end result. It's so nice to be able to find things now. It turned out so nice, we did the 2nd pantry where I keep dishes, plastics, and mixed items for the kitchen!
