Tonia on Oct 28, 2015I think it is just to hide the hole. If you want the knob to show I say go for it!Helpful Reply

Shari on Oct 28, 2015To the best of my recollection, the headboards I have seen made from doors have not included the doorknob so the door is probably turned in an attempt to hide the hole behind the mattress or pillows. However, if you have a pretty crystal doorknob you want to leave on the door, I see no reason why you can't turn the door so it will show, providing it doesn't stick out and get in the way.Helpful Reply

Ken McBride on Oct 28, 2015Door carpenter templates are about 3 feet from the bottom of the door. In the past most doors were made of solid wood and were constructed with a horizontal lock rail. Because of the placement location of the lockrail the carpenters would use this same location for the knob hardware. We sell specialty doors that have made beautiful head boards creating a dramatic bold look. They are wade of Oak, Mahogany, and Douglas fir. Doors that have not been bored for hardware knobs are called book doors. Specialty door contractors like us can't custom make any size or shape that can be imagined.Helpful Reply

PhilCo on Oct 29, 2015Doorknobs, and consequently the door stiles, were always nearer the bottom than the top, it was a compromise, so children could also open the door. On a headboard, does it matter? you use it so that it pleases you, it is of no concern what others may think!Helpful Reply

Z on Nov 06, 2015Have you finished the headboard yet? I'd be curious to see what it looks like. I love the idea of leaving a pretty door knob on. Great place for hubby to hang his hat. ;^)Helpful Reply
